Water Distribution

· Water lines in the Waterline Improvement & Replacement Project are approximately 44 years old

· Water lines degrade and become brittle over time, making point repairs and new line tie-ins difficult, more frequent, and more expensive

· Pipe size in some areas is too small to carry adequate fire fighting flow (typically 1,500 gpm)

· There are currently not enough fire hydrants in the Capital Improvement Area as dictated by the City of Alamosa Fire Chief.  There will be 18 new hydrants installed.

Financial Considerations

· East Alamosa Water District received a grant of $10,000 in December 2019 from Colorado Water Resources & Power Development Authority to complete the Pre-Loan Planning Grant and Project Needs Assessment.

· East Alamosa Water District received a Principal Forgiveness Grant of $243,952 in May 2020 from Colorado Water Resources & Power Development Authority for the Design and Engineering.

· An application was submitted to the Department of Local Affairs for an Energy Impact Assistance Fund grant in the amount of $1,000,000 to be considered in October.

· East Alamosa Water District is committing $500,000 from financial reserves towards this project.
